Symposium Course Description:
This course is designed to provide both the neophyte and the veteran with real-world techniques for sample identification in the lab. The rationale for barcode ID will be reviewed, printing technologies evaluated, and RFID briefly assessed. In addition, an application at a leading hospital lab will be presented including the problem they were trying to solve, their automation solution, and the lessons learned. Finally, a sample management software solution will be described that offers 2,000 user-definable fields and a database that can be integrated into existing systems.
