Describe clinical laboratory experience with genome-wide cfDNA testing to analyze emerging trends from the initial clinical experience. Examine the implementation and utility of genome-wide cfDNA testing from a clinician’s perspective by exploring case examples in which genome-wide cfDNA testing was used in a clinical practice. Illustrate and discuss clinical utility of genome-wide cfDNA testing.

Learning Objectives:

• Distinguish between the types of chromosomal abnormalities identifiable by traditional cfDNA testing and those identifiable by genome-wide cfDNA testing
• Summarize initial experiences with genome-wide cfDNA testing in the first year of use from a clinical laboratory perspective
• Identify potential clinical scenarios where genome-wide cfDNA testing may generate a higher yield of clinically relevant findings compared to traditional cfDNA testing
• Recall specific case examples and identify the impact of genome-wide cfDNA testing on clinical management in those cases

Erica Soster is a licensed and certified genetic counselor working as a clinical liaison for Sequenom and is based out of Indianapolis, IN. Before working for Sequenom, she worked as a genetic counselor at the Center for Prenatal Diagnosis at St. Vincent Women’s Hospital in Indianapolis. She completed her genetic counseling training at the Indiana University Genetic Counseling Program.

Dr Westover is an Asst Professor of Maternal Fetal Medicine and ObGyn at the Cooper Medical School in Camden, NJ. He has dedicated his professional career to improving prenatal care at the local, state and national levels. He is involved with fetal and maternal morbidity & mortality review teams both locally and nationally and he has helped to create legislation in NJ that seeks to improve prenatal care as well as increase funding for women and children health care. He is an officer of various public health entities and works with the NJ Dept of Health, NJ Hospital Association and NJ Legislature to improve access and funding for women's health and maternal child health. He is former president of the NJ MFM Society, current Vice Chair of NJ chapter of ACOG and Co-Chair of the NJ Hosp Assoc Statewide Perinatal Safety Collaborative.
